Is Dermapen Microneedling And Plinest The Best Acne Scar Treatment?

27 Feb 2023 | Acne Treatment

“Is acne scar treatment skincare a scam?”

We’ve always been in this cycle; putting on skincare, double cleansing, wearing sunscreen, blah blah… But suddenly, an unexpected pimple (or five) appears on your skin! And to make things even more stressful, this acne can turn into scars and dark marks!

And what’s worse about acne scarring? They don’t disappear easily!

Want to know how to remove acne scars?

While no magic can immediately treat blemishes and bumps overnight, leading dermatologists from throughout the country (like me, hehe) reveal how to deal with them the most efficiently.

So, as KL’s top aesthetician, I — Dr Abby, will break down why acne scars and dark spots appear and how to effectively treat them. Let’s get started!

How do I know if I have dark spots or acne scars?

Before anything else, I always tell my clients that it is important to know the difference between acne marks and scars while treating them. This may be shocking but many people are unaware that a dark or pink spot on their skin is not an acne scar. It might only be the skin’s normal healing process, skin inflammation frequently leaves a stain.

The inflammation stimulates pigment synthesis, resulting in a mark that fades naturally over many weeks to months. Unlike scars, they are smooth to the touch and indicate that the skin has not suffered permanent collagen damage.

Acne scars, on the other hand, occur when the skin is damaged. Acne scars are classified into two types: depressed and elevated. Depression scars resemble pits or craters and raised scars can be hard and painful. Regrettably, acne scars are permanent.

Microneedling might scare many but it’s actually an effective treament for spots and scars.

Is microneedling good for acne scars?

I believe the term microneedling is no longer foreign to everyone, especially you who are reading this. As I dub it a “shortcut to beautiful skin”, I use microneedling to carefully pierce the top layer of the client’s skin with multiple ultrathin needles.

Sounds scary right? It’s almost painless actually!

The tiny needle punctures are interpreted as injuries by your body, and it stimulates growth factors, collagen, and elastin to repair and regrow skin and tissue. That is why the procedure is also known as collagen induction therapy.

This popular treatment helps plump and thickens your skin while providing multiple other remarkable benefits, such as reducing scars, minimizing wrinkles, rejuvenating skin, and even skin tone.

So, to answer the question, YES! Microneedling is one of the best acne scar treatments!

How can dermapen remove acne scars?

Dermapen microneedling is a sophisticated microneedling procedure that can effectively address skin issues such as obvious symptoms of aging, fine lines, pigmentation, stretch marks, and acne scars.

This microneedling procedure rejuvenates the skin by promoting scarless healing and natural collagen formation in the skin, restoring radiance and a young appearance.

This microneedling can help with acne scar treatment in the following ways:

  • Rebuilds collagen and elasticity
  • Reduces the look of pores, blackheads, and uneven skin texture.
  • Brightens skin color for a radiant glow
  • Limits the visibility of stretch scars

How many dermapen treatments for acne scars?

I know, you are curious too… But, it depends!

Typically, for the best outcomes, I would suggest three to four treatments to my clients. But, if you have very severe acne scarring, we may go up to six treatments.

But, one of the best things that I love about dermapen microneedling is that we can pair it with other treatments to hasten the result! And perhaps give better skin as well! One of the treatments that I usually suggest during our consultation prior to treatment day is adding PLinest treatment.

A box of PLINEST treatment.

PLINEST treatment is effective with over 70 years of study behind it.

What is PLinest treatment?

PLinest is an injection treatment that uses Italian Trout Fish DNA fragments using Mastelli Aesthetic’s HPTTM technology. This treatment, based on 70 years of study, helps to:

  • Promote bio-revitalization to counteract fibroblast aging
  • Regenerating fibroblasts and collagen to restore moisture to injured skin
  • Increasing moisture and suppleness
  • Improving total skin health to achieve smooth, unblemished, and luminous skin.

As I describe it, as the skin is at its “raw-est” condition after dermapen microneedling, injecting PLinest into the skin can further plump the skin, flatten acne scars, and promote flawless skin texture.

Before vs after dermapen?

Post-treatment, you might experience peeling and some mild flaking in a few isolated spots for up to five days after your treatment and minor redness for one to twelve hours. It is important to let the skin “renew” by itself, so DON’T PEEL YOUR SKIN!

What is the cost for dermapen microneedling & PLinest?

In Malaysia, dermapen microneedling treatment and PLinest injection can cost as cheap as RM300 to RM 2,800 per session. However, the cost varies depending on the area being treated, the needle size, the types of service and even the number of sessions you take.

If you want to know more about our acne scar treatment price at Dr Abby Clinic, just drop us a message. We’ll set a date for consultation and we start from there.

Don’t worry! I’m not one of the doctors who “forces” you to spend thousands on treatments. I will only suggest treatments that your skin actually needs.
